NETS•T Standard 3: Model Digital-Age Work and Learning

“Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society.”

The projects included on this page are examples of how I have shown my innovation as an educator and professional in the instructional technology field. The online resources review and LMS selection paper address standard 3(d) - Model use of digital tools to support research and learning, while all of the others are examples that meet standards 3(a) - Apply general technology knowledge to new technologies and situations and 3(b) - Communicate effectively using a variety of media.

Change Tutorial - Organizational Behavior

As part of ITEC 77425 - Managing Technological Change, I created this online tutorial about organizational behavior as an aspect of the change process to assist my peers in understanding the concept. An additional benefit was the opportunity to practice website design and online pedagogy, as the assignment also required me to moderate and facilitate a week-long discussion board thread about the topic.

LMS Selection: Benefits, Drawbacks, and Implementation Considerations Presentation, Paper

For this project, completed for ITEC 77436 - Distance Education, I reviewed five learning management systems and analyzed the functionality available within each of them to develop a "checklist" of sorts as to items to consider when planning an LMS implementation. This proejct identifies pros and cons at the software application level as well as at the usability level, and makes recommendations as to how to include “best practices” in an LMS implementation.

Adobe Flash Portfolio

Completed as the culminating project for a summer workshop on Adobe Flash, this porfolio demonstrates my skills in both Flash programming and visual design. Although there were times when the programming was frustrating, especially since this course was my first time working with Flash and I'm not a hardcore software developer, it was immensely gratifying to be able to produce this portfolio on my own after working through my relative lack of Flash expertise. My confidence with Flash as an authoring tool has also allowed me to develop content for other courses and for non-academic use; I try to utilize this technology whenever I have the chance and it's appropriate for the situation at hand.
